When a cleaning needs a follow-up treatment
Mechanical duct cleaning removes the dust, hair, and debris that physically sit inside your ductwork. Sometimes there is more going on. A basement that flooded, a long-running humidity problem, a previous owner who smoked, heavy pet odor, or a rodent problem can leave behind smells and residues that persist after the debris is gone. In those cases Clean Vents KC applies a sanitizing or deodorizing treatment as a second step, after the ducts have been cleaned.
What we use and how we apply it
We use products intended for use in HVAC systems and apply them by fogging through the ductwork while the system is under negative pressure, so the treatment reaches the interior surfaces of the ducts and is drawn through the system rather than blown into the rooms. Application is only done after a full cleaning, because treating a dirty duct does very little. We will tell you what product we plan to use and why before the work happens.
Common situations we treat
Musty or mildew smells when the system first turns on. Homes that had a water intrusion or a long-term humidity problem in the basement or crawl space. Rental turnovers and home purchases where the previous occupant smoked or had pets. Homes with past mouse or pest activity in the ductwork. Commercial spaces with lingering odors from kitchens, previous tenants, or renovations.
Honest recommendations
Not every home needs this. If your ducts are dusty but odor-free, a standard cleaning is the right call and we will say so. Sanitizing and deodorizing are recommended when there is a reason for them, and we are happy to explain what we found during the inspection so you can decide.
